The World Agrees: #WeNeedDiverseBooks

Standing room only at our BookCon Event!

The #WNDB panel at BookCon was a roaring success! Here are some early recaps of the panel from Publisher’s Weekly, SLJ, Emily Pan, Lyn Miller-Lachmann and Shelf Awareness. NPR’s Morning Edition also had a lovely piece on the campaign.

If you couldn’t make the panel, you can listen to the FULL unedited audio here

At BookCon, #WNDB founder Ellen Oh revealed that the campaign is far from over. In addition to a #WeNeedDiverseBooks diversity festival to be held in Washington, DC in 2016, we have some exciting new partnerships:

A partnership with the National Education Association’s Read Across America to promote diverse books and authors.

We’ll also be joining with the amazing First Book program to bring diverse authors directly into schools with a Diversity in the Classroom initiative

During the panel, Grace Lin passed out a terrific "cheat sheet" for how to sell diverse books, with specific examples based on recommendations from our team. Please check it out at her blog here, and GO FORTH AND HANDSELL!!
